The light of which I speak
Traditional music that didn’t happen for some reason
The Light Of Which I Speak is a lovely collaboration between Harvest Ministers singer Will Merriman and visual artist and former Harvest Minister Padraig McCaul. The pair have created a love story told through Merriman’s music and McCaul’s painting, all inspired by the landing of French troops off North Mayo in 1798. Stylistically and lyrically the record feels like a work of old folk music unearthed, brushed-off and loosed on a world full of people watching Strictly Come Dancing. With a direct delivery and a warts and all recording, The Light Of Which I Speak is an evocative and gripping piece of gaspy crooning and assertive storytelling, fleshed out by helpful accordions, cellos, saxophones, pianos, sacred singing and harmonicas. There’s also French in it (which is always impressive to linguistically simple-minded folk like meself).
Key Track: 'Moore’s Hill'
