The latest track off Elephant – which, I must note, has been sitting in Ireland’s album top twenty for a formidable six months now – sees the White gang take their stripped-down-4/4 two-chord blues to the throat of a country boy’s lament. ‘The Hardest Button To Button’ is laced with Jack’s usual lyrical oddities and vocal roughage, and Meg’s giving it loads on the toms: needless to say, it’ll hit hard.
