New show is from the pen of one of the writers of Misfits
TG4 are promising anarchy, drama, and no shortage of laughs with their new show Eipic, scheduled to air early next month.
The show - described by the station as 'The Commitments for millennials' follows the fortunes of five rural teenagers who take over their local abandoned post office to start a musical revolution.
Writer Mike O’Leary, who previously served as a writer on the cult UK hit Misfits, said, “Youth television - if we can even call it that anymore, has seen some ground-breaking and genre-defining work emerge in the last few years on the other side of the Irish Sea. The canon was crying out for a show with a uniquely Irish twist on this most universal of stories - growing up. While authentic, real and wild were the guiding principles in creating the world of EIPIC, I always had this one concept at the back of my mind: this should look like TV drama penned by Flann O'Brien on the Monday after Electric Picnic.”
Which certainly sounds promising, we'd have to admit! And there's guaranteed to be an interesting soundtrack to boot, with Irish language versions of tracks such as The Jam’s 'Town Called Malice', 'Frankly Mr Shankly' by The Smiths and 'Video Girl' by FKA Twigs all taken on.
The six-part series begins on February 4.
