Get your reggae-funk, electro-folk and vaudeville fix over the coming weeks.
If you find yourself around Galway’s West End, you’d be mad not to stop by Monroe’s Live. One of the country’s finest venues, it’s also one of the busiest, with an always jam-packed calendar of shows.
Here’s just a trio of gigs you can catch there very soon:
Up first, Karma Parking will pull into Monroe’s Live on Thursday July 30. If you fancy some music that will make you move, this eclectic bunch are for you. Fusing reggae, rock and funk and drawing on eclectic influences from Africa to the US, they recently added New Zealand’s Jabin Ward on sax and keys.
A great chance to catch them before they get Electric Picnic dancing for the third time.
The gig starts at 9pm and, best of all, it’s free.
Another fine free show takes place the following night in The Backstage Bar.
You can catch the progressive, electro folk stylings of Big World Blue from 9pm on Friday July 31.
Comprising Shriekback drummer Martyn Barker, who has worked with everyone from Robert Plant to Godlfrapp in the past, and Jo Beth Young, possessed of an ethereal voice, they’ve been lauded for their beguiling harmonies.
Finally, for something a little more risqué, The Pretty Things Peepshow takes place in Monroe’s Live on Sunday August 2.
With over half a decade and hundreds of shows experience behind them, the likes of Madeline Glasseater will bring Broadville to the City of the Tribes. The main draw will no doubt be The Death Do Us Part Danger Show, which sees the husband and wife act of Rachel Renegade and Charlie Atlas indulging in some knife throwing.
Doors are 7.30pm and tickets are €15/€12 from [link]monroes.ie[/link]
