Scullion announce new album and share cover of The National's 'I Need My Girl'
Listen to 'I Need My Girl' below.
Following the release of their reimagined version of 'The Fruit Smelling Shop' last year for Bloomsday, Scullion are back – with a brand new album, Time Has Made A Change in Me, out on September 22.
To coincide with the announcement, they've shared the first taste from the album, a cover of The National's 'I Need My Girl'.
It's a timely release, given that the American rock band will soon arrive in Ireland to play Limerick Live at the Docklands (June 5), Live at The Marquee in Cork (June 6), and the Botanic Gardens in Belfast (June 7).
"We fell in love with The National when they came to Other Voices on a snowy winter’s night in 2012," Scullion's Philip King says. "The National continue to have a deep relationship with Ireland, and we celebrate that. We fell in love with this song, we began to play it at live shows and have now recorded it as part of our new album.”
Scullion’s version of 'I Need My Girl' is produced by Leon O’Neill, is performed by Scullion band members Sonny Condell, Philip King, and Robbie Overson – along with strings by Crash Ensemble, backing vocals by Gemma Doherty (Saint Sister), David Anthony Curley on bass synths and programming, and Leon on programming.
According to the album's official description, "James Joyce, Bob Dylan and Sufjan Stevens are also woven into the DNA of this record, with the inspirational music of Sonny Condell beating at the heart of the thing."
