Say She She announce third album Cut & Rewind and share first single
The NYC band have also announced an international tour, which includes a stop at The Academy in Dublin this November.
NYC disco outfit Say She She have unveiled details of their forthcoming album Cut & Rewind.
Described as a “politically-charged” and “dancefloor-crushing” LP, Cut & Rewind is out on 3rd October via drink sum wtr.
To coincide with the announcement, Say She She have released a new single, the album’s opener and title-track, with a video to boot. Tune into ‘Cut & Rewind’ below.
“Cut & Rewind is a snapshot of our lives for the past few years about the rugged reality of being on the road and running back into the studio to cut a record as soon as we were off,” the band say in a press release. “Then repeat! We hope to offer it up like a homophonic cocktail served up strong, no frills, peppered with some hints of our musical muses with a slice of life mantra on the side. We're here to remind you as much as ourselves to ‘Hire the guy who's gonna look you in the eye’”.
Led by the vocal trio of Piya Malik, Sabrina Mileo Cunningham, and Nya Gazelle Brown, Say She She - whose name pays homage to Nile Rodgers - channels progenitors like Minnie Ripperton, Rotary Connection, Liquid Liquid and ESG. The band was formed by Malik and Cunningham, who were neighbors in an old tenement building in the Lower East Side. After hearing each other singing through the floorboards, they quickly began their songwriting partnership.
Having released their first single, ‘Forget Me Not’ in 2022, Say She She have seen widespread acclaim, with several live TV performances and appearances with the likes of Thee Sacred Souls and Chicano Batman. Their single 'NORMA' was written and released as a fundraiser following the reversal of the landmark U.S. Supreme Court Case Roe v Wade, while 'Echo In The Chamber' is a call to action in support of increased gun control legislation in the United States.
Their forthcoming studio album Cut & Rewind looks to expand the band's scope, drawing inspiration from Lonnie Liston Smith, Lambrini Girls and Amyl and the Sniffers. Across twelve tracks, the album sees the band continue their stream of politically-charged offerings, tackling such issues as racism, homophobia and women’s rights with biting lyrical honesty.
Following the release of their upcoming record, Say She She will perform a gig at The Academy in Dublin on 23rd November as part of an extensive international tour.
Tickets go on sale this Friday, 20th June, at 10 am via Ticketmaster.
Cut & Rewind is available to pre-order and pre-save here.
