Run

When the NME referred to him as “One of the greatest songwriters anyone has ever heard”, Stephen Fretwell could have been forgiven for thinking his career had been given the kiss of death. Thankfully, Fretwell falls amongst the 10% that the UK rag has been right about. It will take more than ‘Run’ to convince of his talents as a great songwriter, but there’s certainly something here. ‘Run’ is a simple guitar and piano based song that is wonderfully in its simplicity. Lyrically it’s beautiful and, amid the many already plying their trade, Fretwell is a singer songwriter to keep an eye on.
