Róisín El Cherif releases new live album in support of Mothers Against Genocide
The album hails from her multi-disciplinary performance at The Button Factory last May, and is out now on Bandcamp.
Irish-Palestinian singer-songwriter Róisín El Cherif has released a new live album from her multi-disciplinary performance at The Button Factory last May.
Proceeds are going to Mothers Against Genocide, who have a water project in Mawasi, Gaza, and who are branching out to help the Sudanese community.
The live show, originally performed in May, aimed to honour both El Cherif’s Palestinian and Irish roots, blending original tracks as well as traditional Arabic tracks, and a special rendition of Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’, all available on the new live album.

Speaking to Hot Press ahead of the gig, she has described it as focusing on Palestinian culture as well as “bringing in the magic element of the cailleach and Irish folklore and mythology.”
Described by Hot Press as “a glistening multi-disciplinary performance,” El Cherif’s Button Factory Show also included extracts from Heiny Srour’s Leila And The Wolves, as well as the Mohammed Bakri documentary Jenin, Jenin.
El Cherif’s new live album is available now on Bandcamp. It is self-released and priced at €25 or open donations.
