RIP: Ken Regan
The acclaimed photographer has lost his battle with cancer.
Hot Press has learnt that Ken Regan, the man responsible for taking iconic shots of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Jimi Hendrix, sadly passed away on Sunday, November 25.
Hailing from The Bronx, he spent his professional career capturing legendary acts for posterity. He was there with The Beatles in '65, at The Last Waltz in '76, and snapping away at Live Aid. You'll know many of his timeless images – Bruce Springsteen meeting his idol backstage for the first time, Andy Warhol and Mick Jagger at the Factory.
It wasn't all music – his latter career found Regan turning his lense towards film shoots, working on the likes of The Pelican Brief and Silence Of The Lambs. He also worked in sports, shooting Muhammed Ali and having his picture of Ali's fight with George Foreman – the infamous Rumble In The Jungle – used on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
In 2009, he spoke to HP's Roisin Dwyer when an exhibition of rare and unseen photos he took during Bob Dylan's infamous Rolling Thunder Tour came to Dublin.
Pictured above charming Madonna in the mid '80s, he will be greatly missed.
