Rennes to host 'A Night In Ireland' featuring Junior Brother, Shark School and Nerves
'Days In Ireland' events are also set to take place throughout the city
The music of a genre-spanning selection of contemporary Irish acts will be showcased in the French city of Rennes this month, with 'A Night In Ireland' – featuring Junior Brother, Shark School and Nerves – taking place at Ubu on Friday, October 16.
Ubu, a live music venue in the heart of Rennes, is run by the non-profit Association Trans Musicales. As well as organising an annual festival each December, their Les Trans cultural project presents concerts and activities throughout the year at Ubu.
'A Night In Ireland' – presented by Les Trans and Rituel 111 – will feature performances by all three acts, as well as a Rituel 111 DJ set.
In addition to the Friday night show, Irish culture will also be explored through special 'Days In Ireland' events. On Thursday, October 15, a screening of The Banshees of Inisherin will be held at Cinéma Arvor. The following afternoon, on October 16, the public are invited to attend a free "rencontre avec Junior Brother" at Mod Koz, which will be followed by a musical session with the Cercle Celtique de Rennes.
Junior Brother's acclaimed third album, The End, landed on several international end-of-year lists following its release last year, and also scored a Choice Music Prize nomination for Irish Album of the Year. It was the boundary-pushing Kerry artist's first project released on Pete Doherty's Strap Originals label.
Shark School
Shark School, who are also performing as part of 'A Night In Ireland', released their debut album, Selachimorpha, via independent label Strange Brew earlier this year. The project followed a string of well-received singles from the Galway-formed garbage band, including 2024's 'Choose Life', which featured on the soundtrack of Netflix's House of Guinness series.
Nerves, meanwhile, will be back in Rennes following their appearance at Le Festival Rituel in 2024. Originally formed in Co. Mayo, and now based in Dublin, the experimental noise-punk band released their latest EP, Iarmhaireacht, last year, and have since returned with 'N26'.
