Prince estate unveils two previously unreleased singles
The Vault Series Vol. 1 project has revealed two new Prince singles.
Two unreleased tracks from the late music icon, Prince, were made available to stream last Friday: "7 (E Flat Version)" from 1992 and "All a Share Together Now" from 1996.
The prolific singer songwriter's career spanned from his first release at age 18 in 1978 to the last album he released Hit n Run Phase Two, which debuted just four months before his death in April 2016.
His estate has continued to release work from his archives following his death, including remasters of previous works, like the Purple Rain album, as well as unreleased tracks on "deluxe" and "superdeluxe" reissues of his Sign o' the Times album. The latest release is titled Vault Series Vol. 1.
The previously released version of "7" featured on Prince's 1992 album, the Love Symbol, reaching number three on the US pop/mainstream charts. It features biblical, apocalyptic lyrics, and a funk-meets-traditional-Middle-Eastern sound layered with heavy synthesisers.
"All a Share Together Now" was never officially released. Its sound is stilly funky, but incorporates jazz elements like a complex percussion section complimented by a simple baseline. Its lyrics also reference spirituality, but with a focus on collaboration rather than annihilation.
"The scriptures teach us/ no matter how long/ the debt of the ones before us/ must be paid....Surplus, deficit/ lets work together now/ for the betterment/ of all our brothers/ and sisters too/ under one god/ the true god."
