After establishing themselves as one of the most thrilling forces on the Belfast music scene, Aeons are back with a powerful new single, 'Smile'.
“It’s about the feeling of being on stage, creating music that helps release," the band say of the track – which was a pre-lockdown live favourite. "Feeding off of the energy of the crowd, it’s almost indescribable. The line ‘Don’t know what it is, I can’t explain it, but I’ll sit here tingling till it gets late.’ It’s pretty much not being able to put into words, the feeling we personally get when creating music together.”
“It’s something that can’t be replaced with any other musicians, a feeling we’ve never before experienced through music until Aeons was born,” they continue. “We find that the initial groove of the track, with the progression becoming a lot more busy, is a great example of that feeling of energy.”
Formed in Bangor in 2018, Aeons’ funk-flavoured approach to indie rock has marked them as a compelling new force in Irish music. With the onset of Covid-19, the band were forced to postpone the release of their debut EP, Hot Sauce. Ten months on, however, ‘Smile’ serves as an impressive new introduction to the band.
