'Play at the O2' competition launches
Here's your chance to play alongside Westlife and Royseven.
O2 have launched a 'Play at the O2' Battle of the Bands competition, which will culminate in the winning act appearing alongside Westlife and Royseven at November 24’s O2 SmartSounds gig in – yup, you’ve guessed it! – the Dublin O2.
As well as playing in front of 14,000 seriously up for it fans, the victors will receive their own backstage dressing-room, a pro-standard video of their performance, an EP that will be available from the O2 WAP music store, a gold disc trophy and ongoing online media coverage.
Casting a critical ear over the nascent talent will be Sony Music MD Annette Donnelly; John Meagher from the Irish Independent; Royseven’s Paul Walsh; and FM104 Group Programme Director Dave Kelly.
To enter acts need to upload a video of them performing on to YouTube, which will then be posted on to O2's website.

“Smartphones have really become a way of life,” reflects Telefonica Ireland Marketing Director Jonnie Cahill. “Everywhere you look there are people tweeting, checking in at locations and events, recording videos, taking photos and sharing content with their friends. O2 is helping customers to get the best out of their Smartphones and with O2 SmartSounds, we are merging the two things that we know best – music and technology – to create a very special live social media concert.”
All customers buying or upgrading to a Smartphone at O2 stores nationwide will receive two free tickets while supplies last.
