Tom Morello: KNEECAP are "the Rage Against the Machine of now"
“What they’re doing in their art is what people could probably stand to do more in their lives: to really speak truth to power,” the Rage Against The Machine guitarist said.
Tom Morello has hailed KNEECAP as "the Rage Against the Machine of now", standing up for the Belfast rap trio’s speaking up for Palestine, saying that they “speak truth to power.”
The guitarist and founder of Rage Against The Machine was asked about which young artists he felt were embodying similar anti-establishment sentiments to his old band during an interview on The Strombo Show last week.
Pointing out to KNEECAP, he said the group was at “the top of the list. “I mean, they’re clearly the Rage Against The Machine of now. Like, there’s them and there’s a gap to the next one.”
When the question of KNEECAP speaking up for Palestine and denouncing the ongoing genocide perpetrated by Israel was brought up, Morello showed his support for the trio, saying” “What they’re doing in their art is what people could probably stand to do more in their lives: to really speak truth to power.
“And, you know, KNEECAP are not terrorists,” he continued. “What is terroristic is, you know, 20,000 dead Palestinian children. That’s the story. Not, I mean, some Irish rappers who don’t like that that’s happening. [That] should not be the story.”
Morello was one of over 100 artists to have signed an open letter by KNEECAP's record label, Heavenly Recordings, in support of the Belfast trio back in May,
