The legendary guitarist revealed details of the solo LP at the Borris House Festival of Writing and Ideas over the weekend.
David Gilmour's new album is set to be entitled Rattle That Lock and will arrive later this year. The Pink Floyd star was being interviewed with his lyricist wife, the novelist Polly Sampson, by author Andrew O’Hagan, and the couple described how music and lyrics come together and how their collaboration works. The Pink Floyd guitarist played recordings of a number of tracks, including ‘Boots On The Ground’, which began life when he heard a rather musical railway station announcement in France and incorporated a recording of that announcement into the intro to the song. He also played ‘The Girl In The Yellow Dress’, a jaunty McCartneyesue song with Jools Holland on piano.
Rattle That Lock will be Gilmour’s first album since On An Island, released in 2006. Its release will coincide with a live tour of Europe.
