Patti Smith announces 50th anniversary reissue of Horses
The record will include alternative takes of original songs as well as unreleased tracks
Patti Smith has announced a 50th anniversary reissue of her 1975 debut album Horses. She also shared previously unreleased song 'Snowball.'
Smith will be releasing a remastered version of the album, with alternative takes as well as eight previously unreleased songs including 'Snowball,' 'The Game,' 'We Three' and 'Distant Fingers.' It will also have Smith's audition tape for RCA.
The edition is out on October 10 and will come both as a LP and a CD.
Horses is widely regarded as one of the most revolutionary rock albums of all time. It was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2021 and received the Charles Cros award, named after the French poet and recognises outstanding achievements in music.
The Chicago born singer recorded the original album in 1975 at Electric Lady Studios, in New York. The record also features a cover of 'Gloria' written by Van Morrison.
Away from music, Smith also made accomplishments as her highly regarded memoir Just Kids received the National Book Award in 2010. It gained popularity for its honest coming of age tale of youth and friendship in the 1970s.
On November 4 the songwriter is set to release a new book, Bread and Angels, which well delve into all aspects of her life from her upbringing to later life.
The newly remastered Horses can pre ordered here.
