President Catherine Connolly hosts presidential reception in advance of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2026

President Catherine Connolly welcomed representatives from Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann to perform at Áras an Uachtarán on July 20.

In advance of the official opening of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2026, representatives from Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann were invited to a presidential reception. Founded in 1951, it is the largest group involved in the preservation and promotion of Irish traditional music, song and dance.

Those involved in delivering the Fleadh including, partners from Ards Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (CCÉ) and Belfast City Council, Economy Minister Caoimhe Archibald MLA and the Lord Mayor of Belfast, Róis-Máire Donnelly attended the reception.

“I am proud that Belfast will host Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann next month and look forward to welcoming visitors from across Ireland and around the world,” said Minister Archibald.

"With more than 700,000 visitors expected, the Fleadh presents a major opportunity to boost tourism, support local businesses and showcase Belfast and the north on an international stage."

Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann is the world's largest annual celebration of traditional Irish music and culture.

The Fleadh is set to take place in Belfast over the course of eight days from August 2 to August 9 with concerts, céilís and community showcases.

The festival will see performances from Ards CCÉ, which will be celebrating 50 years with a special concert featuring recognised artists and local talent. As well as core events, such as Gradam Inclusion Awards, Seachtain na Gaeilge, Comhaltas National Folk Orchestra of Ireland and many more.
