Following a hugely successful 2010, Cork’s Palko are revving up the fun bus for their first dates of 2011
They kick off their Irish tour Upstairs in Whelan’s Dublin on Saturday, January 22, followed by a long list of dates, including the Roisín Dubh Galway, Bakers Place in Limerick and what is bound to be a monstrosity of a homecoming gig in Cork in March.
Palko created a stir at the end of last year when they released the single ‘You’re Wrong’ as a free download just before budget day. But when pressed on the timeliness of the release, Palko’s lead singer Terry O’Brien told Hot Press: "I never wanted to be in a band that was politically motivated… by leaving the lyrics to the listener’s interpretation I have the freedom to write about whatever I want. People can read into it what they will".
Hot Press has said of the boys: "The snappy 'You're Wrong' sweeps in with a more frantic approach, driven by punky guitars and get-up-your-nose vocals . 'Promised Me This' comes laden with fulsome guitars, but it broadens out with a more widescreen swagger and some catchy hooks too. With ‘Take Me Down' they get all funky with their wah-wah washes and chainsaw-like guitar chords."
