Palestinian embassy honours Paddy Sherlock for recent song for Gaza
"To get such a seal of approval from such an important Palestinian person is a huge deal for me," Sherlock said.
Dublin-born musician Paddy Sherlock has been invited to the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Dublin today as thanks for writing his song 'We all let it happen again and again'.
'We all let it happen again and again' expresses solidarity with the people of Gaza, denounces Israel's military activities in the region and encourages listeners to "come down on the street and join" the movement to support Palestine.
According to Sherlock, Palestinian ambassador to Ireland Dr. Jilan Wahba Abdalmajid invited him to the embassy over email to personally thank him for writing the song.
"To get such a seal of approval from such an important Palestinian person is a huge deal for me," Sherlock said.
"It means the song must have something to say and is to the point. I've never been so touched by the reaction of anyone to one of my songs before."
The Palestinian embassy has honoured numerous artistic contributions in the past, ranging from songs to poems to short stories and more by Irish people inspired by Palestine.
A recent addition was Paul Doran's 'In Palestine', with Sharon Shannon and Ger O'Donnell.
Sherlock's music career began in Dublin, busking on Grafton Street when he was only 16. He released the single 'Those Summers in Dublin' last year as an ode to his time in the city.
He moved to Paris, where he has lived for nearly 40 years, performing as a trombonist in numerous French acts, including rock and roller Johnny Hallyday, alternative band Phoenix, funk fusion group FFF and multilingual worldbeat Mano Negra.
Sherlock has also played alongside Irish artists like Glen Hansard, Mundy, Jack Lukeman and Jerry Fish, who brought him to Electric Picnic, 3Arena and The Olympia.
