Oxegen not for Phoenix Park, say MCD
Promoters MCD have acted quickly to dismiss suggestions that the Oxegen Festival is moving to Phoenix Park, in Dublin.
A story appeared in today's Irish Mirror that Ireland's biggest festival would be shifting its base in 2012. However, the Oxegen website, maintained by promoters MCD, has categorically stated that this is not the case.
"Following unconfirmed speculation in a morning newspaper, Oxegen promoters can confirm that Oxegen is not moving to Phoenix Park," an official statement reads.
Phoenix Park has previously hosted gigs and the prospect of a major event during 2012, in what is often described as the biggest urban park in Europe, certainly cannot be ruled out – with summer gigs looking increasingly likely. Hyde Park in London currently hosts an annual series of concerts very successfully. But Oxegen will not be happening in the Phoenix Park.
"For accurate information on Oxegen," the official statement continues, "follow us on Facebook or Twitter or keep an eye on our Oxegen website. Details of Oxegen 2012 will be announced at a later date."
An announcement before Christmas is likely, as tickets have been purchased in large numbers as Christmas presents in recent years.
