Oliver Tree dies in helicopter collision in Brazil, aged 32
The musician and internet personality was among six people who died when the helicopter he was travelling in collided with another.
Indie-pop artist Oliver Tree has died in a helicopter collision in Brazil at the age of 32.
He had been on a world tour when the crash occurred over Rio de Janeiro on Sunday. One of the helicopters then fell onto the car park of a dealership, setting the surrounding vehicles ablaze.
Tree had planned his 70-date World's First World Tour to span more than 30 countries, starting in Mexico City on May 30 and ending in Beijing in October.
Footage published by Brazilian media shows one of the helicopters dropping from the sky, with flames and smoke rising from the crash site. Officials said an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the collision.
Argentinian content creator Gaspar Prim Diaz (Gaspi) was also believed to have been in one of the helicopters; the other passengers on the helicopter's manifest were Lucas Brito Chaves, Lucas Vignale and pilot Alexandre Souza. The crew manifest for the second aircraft lists only the pilot, Charles Marsillac.
Tree was known for songs including 'Life Goes On', 'Miss You' and 'Alien Boy', and has more than 11 million monthly listeners on Spotify, with his top songs listened to more than 700m times.
He was featured in Hot Press' Hot for 2020 International Acts; in the same year, he released his debut studio album, Ugly Is Beautiful.
Youtuber KSI, who collaborated with him on the track 'Voices', paid tribute online.
"Can't believe I'm actually having to type this," he wrote.
"You're 32, man. You should still be here. You still had so much life to live. So much more music to make. So much content to make."
"You're a legend and will always be a legend. Still doesn't feel real. Genuinely feel sick. I love you, bro."
Dublin artist KhakiKid also paid tribute to the late singer online, sharing a photograph of them.
"First person to ever let me support them, was so kind to us, RIP."
