Offaly singer-songwriter Anna Carmody releases debut album
I'm the Fool is available to stream now below.
Singer-songwriter Anna Carmody has released her debut album, I'm the Fool, today.
The Galway-born, Tullamore-raised singer-songwriter wrote her first song in 2019 and has since gained attention for her singles, 'Million Pieces' and 'Summer Air.'
Taking influence from artists like Lana Del Ray, Dolores O'Riordan, and Amy Winehouse, I'm the Fool is a collection of stories from a darker period of the singer's life. Having moved home at the start of the pandemic, she says that "the peacefulness of the countryside and time spent in lockdown almost forced me to reflect on past events and people."
Carmody incorporates experimental use of dissonant electronic sound and spoken word to the tracks, and the end result is emotional and haunting.
Having played on the Hot Press Lockdown Sessions in 2020, Tanis Smither described the Offaly native as having an "astonishing range," weaving between "a near-whisper and a wavering, throaty vibrato."
Explaining the inspiration behind the album's theme, Carmody says that "In tarot, [the fool] is an entrepreneurial person who is not afraid to take risks and follow their dreams."
