20th anniversary of Amy Winehouse's Back to Black celebrated with special concert
The concert celebrated 20 years of Amy Winehouse's album Back to Black, which was released on October 27, 2006.
A 20th anniversary concert celebrating Amy Winehouse's GRAMMY-winning album Back to Black took place at the Roundhouse in Camden last night.
The show was curated by the record's original producers Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi, Winehouse's long-time musical producer Dale Davis, producers Paul Duffy and p*nut, and Darcus Beese.
The Amy Winehouse Band also joined to play Back to Black in full, with special guests including Baby Rose, Corinne Bailey Rae, FLO, Jessie Reyez, Jorja Smith, Lianne La Havas, Nia Smith, Sasha Keable, Skye Newman, and Yebba.
All the musicians came together at the end of the concert for a joint performance of 'Valerie', a track by The Zutons, which Winehouse later covered.
The gig will be shown on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer on Saturday, October 24, as part of wider programming celebrating the singer. It will also be broadcast on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds on Monday, October 26.
Mark Ronson commented on the impact of Back to Black.
"It's crazy that six songs made in a fit of furious musical infatuation would matter so deeply to so many people twenty years later."
Salaam Remi praised the late musician.
"Amy was one of one. One-of-a-kind artist. One-of-a-kind spirit. One-of-a-kind soul. Experiencing that level of talent, passion, humour, honesty, and love for what she created was a gift."
Since its release 20 years ago, Back to Black, has sold over 25 million copies worldwide and earned five GRAMMY Awards.
A series of special deluxe expanded formats of the record has been announced for October 23 via UMR/Island.
