The Flaming Lips announce new album The Teardrop Throbs
In support of The Teardrop Throbs' release, the band will play a special series of shows in Nashville, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and London.
American rock band The Flaming Lips have announced a new album The Teardrop Throbs, out January 22, 2027 via Third Man Records.
The news comes alongside the release of single 'God Will Control the Werewolves'.
"The second track 'God Will Control the Werewolves' started as a little story about my 2 boys (Bloom and Rex) and me playing hide and seek at the park as it was getting dark outside," said lead singer Wayne Coyne.
"Bloom asked me if, while him and Rex were hiding, the werewolves would get them, and I told him God would control the werewolves for a little bit while we played hide and seek."
Coyne explained that The Teardrop Throbs has been inspired by his experience with fatherhood, but stressed that it is open to interpretation.
"There will never be anything in my life as important as my two little boys," he said. "I am lucky to have arrived at the greatest of the greatest purposes in life."
The band's 17th studio album marks their first new music in nearly seven years, following on from 2020's American Head. It was produced by themselves, Taylor Johnson, Dave Fridmann and Scott Booker.
This will also be the first record since the departure of longtime collaborators Michael Ivins and Steven Drozd.
In support of The Teardrop Throbs' release, the band will play a special series of shows in Nashville, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and London.
Formed in Oklahoma in 1983, The Flaming Lips have garnered three Grammy awards, a Tony award nomination and RIAA Gold certification for their 2002 album Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots.
