NSMA winner
IMMODIUM ARE £1,000 better off this week after winning the National Student Music Awards in Vicar St.
The Wexford quartet – who were cheered on by a large gaggle of travelling fans – also won recording time at Temple Lane Studios, a consultation with Hummingbird Records, 500 CDs from Trend Studios, an opportunity to perform at the UK NMSA Finals in May, and a June 1st support slot at Vicar St.
According to our hack-in-the-front-row, "It was clear almost from the moment that Immodium took to the stage that we were witnessing something very special. Though echoes of Jane’s Addiction and Rage Against The Machine could be heard, there was also an undeniable originality. The judges later asked that the band be informed of their collective view that, ‘They had never before seen such an explosion of talent on an Irish stage’. Since the panel included Sony A & R man Hugh Murray and respected music writer Tony Clayton-Lea this was praise indeed."
Commiserations to Dublin’s After The Party and Limerick’s Sutras, who also impressed but didn’t have any photos of the judges in compromising positions.
