MTV Europe Music Awards to be staged in Belfast

There’s some great news for our friends up north with MTV confirming that their 2011 Europe Music Awards are to take place in the Belfast Odyssey on November 6.
According to the Belfast Telegraph, the city beat off competition from Warsaw, Paris and Istanbul to land the event, which will be backed by the City Council to the tune of £320,000. Further funding will be provided by various Stormont departments, Tourism Northern Ireland, NI Screen and commercial sponsors.
In previous years, Copenhagen has received £8.13 and Edinburgh £11.90 for each pound invested in bringing the MTV Europe Music Awards to their cities.
Along with the centrepiece Odyssey bash, there will also be a week of smaller gigs and events to showcase the local music industry.
