The Afghan Whigs announce new album Soft Control
The album is set to release on August 21.
The Afghan Whigs have announced their tenth studio album, Soft Control, set to release on August 21 via Royal Creame/BMG. To mark the news, the band have shared the album's lead single 'Jungle Roux'.
The Cincinnati based band's new album is a testament to the old David Bowie quote, where he describes aging as “an extraordinary process where you become the person you always should have been.”
The group formed in 1986, then in 2001, they took a ten year hiatus before regrouping in 2011. The band emerged within the 90s Seattle grunge scene, signing with Sub Pop Records, who famously signed Nirvana and Soundgarden.
The group consists of original members Greg Dulli and bassist John Curley. The other three members, Rick Nelson, Patrick Keeler and Christopher Thorn, all joined after the groups break in 2011.
The ten track album was recorded at Fireside Sound in Joshua Tree, Marigny Studios in New Orleans, Gold Diggers Sound in East Hollywood and Sycamore in Cincinnati. The album also features contributions from former Afghan Whigs drummer Patrick Keeler, Petra Haden and My Morning Jacket's Bo Koster.
The announcement comes alongside a new run of UK, European and North America tour dates for the autumn, with Ed Harcourt joining the band on their UK and European shows.
