Minister praises Hot Press drugs issue
The Hot Press drugs edition should be used as education material in Irish schools, according to the Minister with responsibility for drugs, Pat Carey.
“To be honest with you, it is the kind of material that I would say transition years teachers should be using with students in schools and youth organisations would be using outside of school. You need to have something that touches raw nerves in people and just shakes them out of a certain sense of complacency,” Minister Carey told us.
He went on to describe the drugs edition as a “very impressive” and “comprehensive” study of drugs in contemporary society.
“I was very impressed with it. It was very comprehensive and what I liked about it is that it is one of these warts-and-all [reports] – whether it was with the very sinister parts of the drugs scene; or treatment and rehabilitation – they were all well covered. The reports I have had back from younger readers is that they were very taken by it.”
