Entitled, "Blonde SuperFreak Steals the Magic Brain", the psychedelic short film features Wayne Coyne dressed up as a giant rainbow. Need we say more?
Already close pals, Miley Cyrus and The Flaming Lips proved that their friendship lasts in sickness and in health with this crazy film collaboration, which was shot while Cyrus was hospitalised for an allergic reaction to an antibiotic back in April.
"This is the video we originally intended to be for a song that has a reference to the drug LSD," Coyne tells Rolling Stone. "We were lucky enough to get a couple of hours with a bedridden Miley Cyrus. And even though she was still quite ill, she was full of laughs and great absurd suggestions."
According to what Coyne tells Rolling Stone, the film’s plot line goes like this:
Electronica icon Moby is a evil cult leader. John F. Kennedy’s brain has the original formula for LSD. Cyrus has the brain. Moby orders a naked nymph blonde super freak to stea; the brain. Cyrus enlists a burned-faced Santa and a lesbian Bigfoot to get it back, all of which is going on between cuts to the Flaming Lips performing as rainbows, mushrooms and flowers.
Wowza.
Cyrus isn’t the freak of the new film, but Flaming Lips Frontman and Hot Press regular Wayne Coyne has affectionately given her that title before. Coyne caught up with Hot PressOlaf Tyaransen back in May to chat with him about his love for the slightly kooky Cyrus and their collaborations.
“She’s such a great ‘I don’t give a fuck’ sort of personality. And that really is true, when you're around her: she’s really a wonderful kind of freak,” Coyne told Olaf. “She said even three or four years ago, when she was still considered ‘Hannah Montana’, that she was a big Flaming Lips fan. I’ve known that for a while. It must have just being something in our music, or something that she perceived about us, that she reached out to us and said, ‘Hey, maybe we should do some music together.’”
