McCartney Scores First Billboard Number 1 Album In 36 Years
The music legend's newest release 'Egypt Station' is his first chart topper since 1982's 'Tug of War'.
Macca's newest album, Egypt Station, has given the iconic rocker his first number 1 spot on the Billboard 200 since the early 1980's. His last release to hold this position was 1982's Tug of War. The album shifted 153,000 units in the week ending 13th September.
This is the longest gap between number 1's for a living artist. The only artist to have a longer gap between number 1 albums is Johnny Cash who's posthumous release, American Man IV:A Hundred Highways in 2006, reached number one 36 years and 10 months since his classic live album Johnny Cash at San Quentin in 1969.
The Beatles star has been promoting the album for quite a while, including a memorable appearance on on James Corden's Carpool Karaoke, and an interview with GQ magazine last week in which he revealed to fans that himself and John Lennon were closer than people thought......
