The Mary Wallopers, Jinx Lennon and more to play concert to 'help save Cú Chulainn’s Castle'
The concert will take place at on Sunday, June 21, at Mo Chara pub in Dundalk
The Mary Wallopers, Jinx Lennon and several other performers are set to take part in a ‘special solstice concert’ to support the campaign to ‘help save Cú Chulainn’s Castle’.
The concert will take place at 5 pm on Sunday, June 21, at Mo Chara pub in Dundalk. Admission is free. Other musicians include The Cooleys, Dundalk Dolls, Finnian, and Gerry O’Connor.
The event comes amid plans by Grandspect Limited for a Large-scale Residential Development on lands off the Castletown Road. The company applied to Louth County Council at the end of 2025 for permission to construct 1,058 homes as part of a 10-year development plan.
An online petition to Louth County Council titled ‘Petition to Protect Cú Chulainn’s Castle and surrounding landscape’ has also been launched.
“We, the undersigned, call on Louth County Council, the National Monuments Service, and all relevant planning authorities to protect Cúchulainn’s Castle and the surrounding landscape from large-scale residential development.”, it says on the petitions description.
“Cú Chulainn’s Castle is an important historic, cultural, and archaeological landmark closely connected to the heritage and mythology of Dundalk and County Louth.”
The petition was established by local photographer Nicola Bishop and, after two weeks, is now around 100 signatures short of its target of 6,000.
