Macca's Ecker found 50 years on
A homework essay written by Beatle Paul McCartney when he was 10 has just been found, having been lying in Liverpool's Central Library for more than five decades.
The essay was in the library because in 1953 McCartney came toppermost of the poppermost of hundreds of other kids in his school to win a prize for an essay about the Queen's coronation that took place that same year. The man who as a Beatle penned the song ‘Her Majesty’, including the lines “her majesty is a pretty nice girl”, had as a mere schoolboy described the Queen in his essay as "the lovely young Queen Elizabeth".
Liverpool's Central Library will display the essay in 2013 as part of an exhibition for the 60th anniversary coronation celebrations.
Calligraphy experts will be fascinated to note that the young Paul’s writing as a 10-year-old used the same rounded ends on capital letters that later appeared on the letter "B" of "Beatles" on the group's bass drum.
