It could have been a disaster – trying to go cold turkey while on a European tour, in the lead-up to his chat with Craig Fitzpatrick, Brown had walked out of a Guardian interview and been rude and unresponsive to another journo (later apologising online).
In the event, he felt he'd finally kicked the lean and was charm personified backstage in Dublin's Academy.
