The album was recorded over four hectic days with Thomas Bartlett in New York.
Adrian Crowley has confirmed the October 6 release through Chemikal Underground of Dark Eyed Messenger, which is trailed by gorgeous new tune, ‘I Wish’.
His eighth album finds the Choice Music Prize-winning Dubliner shacking up in the studio with Thomas Bartlett, AKA Doveman whose production CV includes Sufjan Stevens, Martha Wainwright, The Magnetic Fields and The Gloaming.
“Thomas said he had a potentially controversial suggestion,” says Crowley of the four days they spent together in a New York studio. “He asked how I’d feel about having no guitar on the album. I jumped at the idea. The notion of showing up and just singing appealed to me very much.
“Thomas’ instinct and my vision seemed to work in synergy. It was moving to see him conjure these spectral sounds seemingly out of the air between us.”
The striking cover is supplied by Galway artist Louise Manifold.
