The former boybander and new solo star says that they would have been "poor for Westlife".
As his debut solo album Home enters at No. 2 in Ireland, former Westlife singer Kian Egan has been talking about the decline of the album charts in terms of sales.
"I was told the other day that One Direction's album sold around 700,000 copies in the UK and it was the biggest-selling album of the year," Egan told the Daily Star. "Back in the day with Westlife, that would have been fairly poor, we were selling more like 1.7 or 1.8 million. Times have changed.
"There were loads of bands around then – Blue, Steps, A1, S Club – there was room for all of us. But now there's only really room for one One Direction."
It seems there's also room for Egan, as his strong first week showing in Ireland is on course to be followed up by a Top 10 placing in the UK over the weekend.
