John Lennon and Yoko Ono concert film Power To The People coming to cinemas this spring

A restored concert film from John Lennon and Yoko Ono ’s iconic 1972 performance at Madison Square Garden is set to hit cinemas worldwide this spring.

The film, titled Power To The People: John & Yoko/Plastic Ono Band with Elephant’s Memory and Special Guests – Live at the One To One Concert, New York City, 1972 will be shown on April 29 and May 3.

The film documents one of Lennon's only two full-length concerts after leaving The Beatles, the One To One benefit gigs he held with Ono to raise a reported $1.5 million for developmentally disabled children.

Both took place on August 30, with a matinee show and a full-length gig in the evening including legendary guests Stevie Wonder, Roberta Flack, Sha Na Na and more.

Filmed by director Steve Gebhardt, the concerts originally came out as a 40-minute TV special, John Lennon and Yoko Ono Present the One-to-One Concert, and was later re-edited into the 55-minute John Lennon Live in New York City in 1986.

This new version, directed by Simon Hilton, is described as “multiscreen concert film,” and restored by Sean Ono Lennon.

“It was a concert that had a legendary status in my mind, because it was my dad’s last concert,” Sean said in a statement. “I remember wanting a Les Paul because he played Les Paul during that show. I feel very grateful I got to work on it because he did plan on touring and he didn’t get to, so all we’ve got is this concert.”
