Recent Hot Press interviewee James McClean has been typically forthright in his reaction to Roddy Collins being sacked at the weekend by Derry City after winning just three of his 13 games in charge at the Brandywell.
Collins’ dismissal, he tweets, was “inevitable; poor signings, negative tactics/team selection e.g. his son. Dear me, ego was bigger than club. Shambles on and off the pitch.” Challenged about his comments by one his followers, McClean responded: “I give my opinions, right or wrong. At least they’re honest. Some people will never like me for that and I will continue to never give a toss.”
There was disappointment for the ex-Derry City player last night when his current club Wigan Athletic succumbed to QPR – Rangers supporter Luke ‘Ming’ Flannagan will be delighted! - in their bid to reach this season’s Championship Play-Off Final. Harry Redknapp’s men won 2-1 in extra-time to set up a Wembley clash on May 24 with Derby County.
James is likely to be in action the following day when Ireland take on Turkey at The Aviva.
