iTunes Music Store in Ireland
Having finally come to an agreement with the Irish Music Rights Organisation, Apple made the European version of the iTunes Music Store available yesterday in Ireland.
This means, among other things, that fans here will finally be able to download the 446-song Complete U2 digital box-set, which was made available through other iTunes stores in November and highlighted the need for Apple and IMRO to strike a mutually acceptable deal.
Customers will have access to over 700,000 songs, which cost 99 cent for an individual track and €9.99 for an entire album. Among them are exclusives by Damien Rice, The Thrills, The Pogues and The Corrs.
The importance of iTunes to the music industry was underlined this week when sales of legal download singles outstripped the sales of physical CD singles for the first time in the UK.
At 312,290 compared to 282,399, the digital revolution appears to have started in earnest.
