Inter-Be
Texturally complex, conceptually-simple folk-blues
Peter Wolf Crier arrive with an intriguing set of self-imposed limitations. A percussionist / guitarist duo, most of their tracks feature an urgently strummed or picked guitar (played with the same intensity whether electric or acoustic), with the drums providing much of the texture. Beyond this, most tracks feature at least one extra element, from organs to falsetto vocals to battered piano, and they all sound like close-to live recordings done with close-to vintage equipment. It would all be meaningless, of course, if the songs themselves didn’t sound so moody, bluesy, folksy and sincere. The result is a very good, intense and impressive album.
