He Named Me Malala Released Next Week
On October 9, moviegoers can look forward to the mass release of the inspirational documentary, He Named Me Malala.
The documentary film is a true story, and is based off of the iconic human rights activist, Malala Yousafzai.
A native from Swat Valley, Pakistan, Yousafzai facilitated critical and transformative discussions surrounding female education. At only 18-years-old, she is the youngest-ever Nobel Peace Prize winner, and continues to be a model of human rights activism on a global scale.
As a young girl, Yousafzai always possessed progressive values regarding female education in Pakistan. In her region, the local Taliban had prohibited girls and women from studying in school. Yousafzai spoke against this in a blog for the BBC, and discussed her life under the Taliban’s rule.
In 2012, just as Yousafzai was boarding her morning school bus, a gunman from the Taliban fired three shots at her. One of the shots hit her head, requiring her to be sent into intensive hospital care. Remarkably, she survived.
The attempted assassination of Yousafzai sparked global recognition. This eventually allowed Yousafzai to become one of the most influential people in the world, according to 2013, 2014 and 2015 issues of Time magazine.
The documentary will showcase Yousafzai’s story and her unique journey.
Yousafzai echoes in the trailer, “They thought that the bullet would silence us. I am the same Malala.”
