New book about the final years of legendary singer John Prine announced
The book follows the last years of one of the most celebrated songwriters.
A new book about the final years of American singer-songwriter John Prine, Living in the Present with John Prine, has been announced.
In 2018, Prine met award-winning author Tom Piazza to write the singer's memoir together.
According to a statement, "Prine shared intimate, often hilarious stories of his youth and family in Chicago and Kentucky, his breakthrough into the national spotlight, his riotous early years in the Nashville country scene, and much more."
In April 2020 Prine died of COVID, causing the unfinished memoir to change direction, with the book now looking into the singer's last years.
Prine was an influential country-folk artist known for creating short stories in his music. His 1971 debut album featured one of his most famous songs 'Hello In There'. The track is written from the perspective of an elderly man who suffers from loneliness.
In 2021 Prine's family created the Hello in There Foundation in his memory. The foundation "aims to identify and collaborate with individuals and communities to offer support for people who are marginalized, discriminated against or, for any reason, are otherwise forgotten," according to their website.
Every purchase of Living in the Present with John Prine through the foundation directly supports grant-making efforts.
The book can now be pre-ordered here.
