Minister Martin Cullen has confirmed that filming of a ten part series - a contemporary retelling of the Arthurian legend - will commence at Ardmore Studios in June.
Martin Cullen, Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism has today confirmed that production will begin this summer in Ireland of a major new television series.
Camelot will offer a contemporary spin on the legend of King Arthur, using Thomas Malory's renowned 15th-century work "Le Morte d'Arthur," as its primary source.
The series has big names behind it - it will be produced by Oscar-winner Graham King (The Departed) and The Tudors', Morgan O’Sullivan, as well as James Flynn of the Irish production company, Octagon.
Minister Martin Cullen said: “Landing a series of this scale is indicative of the quality of Irish film talent both in front of and behind the camera. Congratulations are due to Morgan O’Sullivan and James Flynn who between them, have a remarkable track record of making award-winning TV series in this country.”

He also commented on the economic repercussions of a series of this scale coming to the country: "The benefits of film and television production in Ireland include increased international investment in our economy; increased employment in this sector and positive spin-off effects for romoting Ireland as a tourist destination and as an industrial location for all aspects of creative endeavours.”
Casting has now commenced for Camelot, which will premiere early in 2011.
