Hozier reaches huge career milestone with first ever UK number 1
Hozier's 'Too Sweet' has amassed almost 120 million listens on Spotify alone since its release last month.
Wicklow artist Hozier – aka Andrew Hozier-Byrne – has reached a major career milestone which until this point had eluded him: a UK number one single.
The Irish musician has toppled Beyoncé 'This Ain't Texas' to bag the No. 1 spot.
Released on March 22, 'Too Sweet' is from Hozier's most recent EP Unheard.
Last Friday, it was announced that the single had leap-frogged from No.8 to No.4 in the UK.
Despite spending an impressive 109 weeks on the chart, Hozier's breakthrough hit 'Take Me To Church' never claimed the top spot, having peaked at No.2 in the UK.
Over in the US, meanwhile, 'Too Sweet' is currently occupying the No.4 slot on the Billboard Hot 100, up from No.5 the week before, marking his highest billboard position since 'Take Me To Church' peaked at number 2. However, the momentum behind the track is likely to take it even higher – the question now being: how high can it go?
In Ireland, the track sits in the top spot, up from No.2 last Friday.
The Unheard EP is made up of four tracks recorded during the sessions for Hozier's latest album, Unreal Unearth.
"These are songs that might’ve made it to the circles of gluttony, limbo, violence and the outward ‘ascent’ respectively, but could not for different reasons," he announced at the time. "I’m very glad I’ll get to share them with you.”
Unreal Unearth was the Co. Wicklow singer-songwriter's first to reach No.1 on the UK's Official Albums Chart last year. It was also his third consecutive Irish No.1 album.
In the midst of a busy run of North American, European and UK dates this summer, Hozier is set to headline Marlay Park in Co. Dublin on July 5.
The results of the Hot Press Readers' Poll were announced today, with Hozier sweeping to the No.1 slot there too, in a number of categories.
