The bass player for the legendary LA punk band died yesterday.
Lorna Doom, born Teresa Ryan, passed away yesterday. Doom was the bassist for the seminal punk band Germs, who were founded in Los Angeles in 1976.
The Germs are often remembered for their classic 1979 album (GI), produced by Joan Jett. A huge force in the Los Angeles punk scene of the late '70s, the Germs originally disbanded in 1980 following the suicide of lead singer Darby Crash. However, the group reformed in 2005, with actor Shane West, who played Crash in the biopic What We Do Is Secret, taking the place of the lead singer.
The Germs were also featured in Penelope Spheeris' acclaimed 1981 documentary The Decline of Western Civilization, which chronicled the developing punk rock scene in Los Angeles. Classic punk bands like Black Flag, X, and Circle Jerks also appeared in the film.
Drummer Don Bolles took to Facebook yesterday to announce Lorna Doom's death, in a post that simply read: "Lorna." Bolles followed the statement with a comment: "She left this mortal coil today around 1."
Doom's cause of death is yet to be confirmed.
