Cast announced for new Beatles TV show Hamburg Days
The six-part series will take place in the early 1960s during the formative years of the band
The cast has been announced for Hamburg Days, an upcoming six-part television drama centred on The Beatles’ early years performing in Hamburg during the 1960s. Production is currently underway in Hamburg, Munich and Liverpool.
The series will feature a largely unknown cast, with Rhys Mannion portraying John Lennon, Murphy Ellis as Paul McCartney, Harvey Brett as George Harrison and Louis Landau as Stuart Sutcliffe. Patrick Gilmore will portray drummer Pete Best.
The drama is inspired by an autobiographical book by Klaus Voormann and Astrid Kirchherr, who were both closely connected to the band during their time in Hamburg. Voormann, who designed the cover artwork for the Beatles’ 1966 album Revolver, earning him a Grammy Award, also performed bass on several solo projects. Kirchherr became known for her photographs documenting the group during the period.
Both of the authors will appear on the show. Luna Jordan will portray Kirchherr, while Casper von Bülow will play Voormann.
The project is produced by W&B Television and Turbine Studios, with co-financing from ACC Television and German broadcaster ZDF. The producer is German filmmaker Benjamin Benedict.
The show is written by Jamie Carragher, who previously worked on Succession. Directing the series are Christian Schwochow, known for his work on The Crown and Laura Lackmann.
The music is being composed by BAFTA-winning musician David Holmes, known for scoring the Ocean's Eleven trilogy as well as the spy thriller series Killing Eve.
