Prime Video announces Lily Allen documentary

Prime Video has announced a documentary charting the life and career of Lily Allen, with the film set to premiere globally in 2027.

Directed by Mat Whitecross, whose previous works include Oasis: Supersonic and Coldplay: A Head Full of Dreams, the documentary will trace Allen's journey from her early breakthrough as the "Queen of MySpace" to her recent musical resurgence. It will also feature interviews with people closest to the singer-songwriter, promising what Prime Video describes as "an intimate portrait" of her life and career.

The film explores Allen's evolution as an artist whose sharp lyricism and candid storytelling helped shape a generation of female pop musicians, according to Prime Video.

The documentary is described as a story of "resilience, reinvention, and an artist reclaiming her narrative on her own terms."

The project is co-produced by Magna Studios and Mint Pictures. No release date beyond a 2027 launch window has yet been confirmed.

Allen first rose to prominence in 2006 with her Mercury Prize-nominated debut album Alright, Still, which spawned hits including 'Smile', 'LDN' and 'Alfie'. She followed it with the chart-topping It's Not Me, It's You (2009), featuring the singles 'The Fear', 'Not Fair' and 'Fuck You', before releasing Sheezus in 2014 and No Shame in 2018.

Her fifth studio album, West End Girl (2025), marked her return to music after a seven-year hiatus and earned widespread critical acclaim, becoming her highest-charting record since 2009 and reaching No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart.
