Further plans for Africa Day announced
Spirit of Africa Voice release details of three events taking place from May 23-25 to coincide with Africa Day celebrations.
The yearly festival – celebrating African diversity and success in Ireland – will kick off with a talent competition featuring music, dance, storytelling, poetry, and comedy at Lisbrook House, Galway (May 23).
On May 24, ‘Rhythm & Design’ will feature two of Irelands leading workshop facilitators, offering the unique opportunity to learn the fundamentals skills of drum rhythm, and the art of street painting. There will also be live music from local African band Kure. Free drums will be provided with all ages welcome.
May 25 will feature live bands and dance groups, and entertainment from the Feile Africa Roadshow, featuring Oleku & Motema, along with the Afrish Arts group and the winner of the African Talent show. The event will take place on the Volvo Village Outdoors stages.
Commenting on the festival, Minister for Irish Aid, Peter Power, said, “I’m delighted that Spirit of Voice has grasped the opportunity to bring people together to celebrate Africa and all it has to offer. Irish Aid, the Government’s programme for overseas development, is delighted to support the celebration of Africa Day.”
Spirit of Africa is among the 35 events taking place around the country this year to celebrate Africa Day.
The events will be free and open to all members of the public. Full schedule details for the three-day celebrations can be found at www.spiritofvoice.com while further information on all Africa Day events is available on www.irishaid.gov.ie/africaday.
