Frighthened Rabbit: Pedesrian Verse
Cult scottish folk-rockers set out for the big time...
Frightened Rabbit are a slow-burner. They have established a following in their native Scotland with their heartfelt brand of alt. folk – . but they haven’t yet gained momentum elsewhere. All that may be about to change. On this, their fourth effort – their first for Atlantic – the band are working with producer Leo Abrahams’ (Brian Eno, David Byrne). The arrangements are dense and clever – ethereal riffs and gentle folk melodies marry beautifully with warm percussion.
Songs such as ‘Late March, Death March’ and ‘The Woodpile’ are superb, their impact heioghtened as Scott Hutchison’s handsome native howl soars high. This could be a big album for them – and I for one won’t be complaining.
