Four Day Halloween Festival for Derry
Féile na Samhna takes place at the city's new cultural centre
Fresh from its designation as the UK's inaugural City Of Culture, Derry will play host to a four day festival of drama, music, storytelling and song events from October 28 - 31. Féile na Samhna will take place at Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin, the city's new Irish cultural centre.
Kicking off at 2pm on October 28 with a puppet theatre production from Fíbín, the festivities will continue that evening as Lorcán Mac Mathúna and Dermot Somers bring their musical and visual show Táisc is Tuairisc (Death Notice and Account) to the centre.
On October 29, Pictiúrlann na Cultúrlainne, a new film club based at An Chultúrlann, launches with its first film “Fitzcarraldo” (1982).
Renowned traditional singers Rosie Stewart, Kitty Sean Cunningham and Alan Burke take to the stage on Saturday October 30 from 8pm.
On October 31 from 11am-3pm, visitors will be invited to get into the spirit of Samhain by joining the Cultúrlann seanchaithe (storytellers) to listen to tall tales, myths, legends and stories. Fancy dress is invited and there will also be free face-painting for children.
Tickets for all events are available online at www.culturlann-doire.ie or from the box office at 0044 28 71 264132. For information on Halloween events in Derry visit www.derrycity.gov.uk/halloween
