Fifteen '90s Irish bands that should have been MASSIVE!

Having cast a steely eye and ear over the 1980s, we now move on to the '90s when, still seeking the 'new U2', major record companies were willing to chuck suitcases full of cash at Irish acts, some of whom were barely out of their rock 'n' roll nappies. Quite a few succumbed to the weight of expectation and/or ruthless accountants who realised they weren't going to get an immediate enough return on their megabuck investments, but not before releasing some fantastic music.
It was, as My Little Funhouse man Brendan Morrissey tells us, a decade of wonderful excess.
"Playing guitar solos on top of cars, sure, why not?" he laughs. "That was Jack Nance from Twin Peaks starring in the video for 'Raintown'. We shot it on Route 66."
